Mary Iliopoulos (FR/Morton Grove, Illinois) has been chosen to participate with the Greek National Softball Team. A pool of women have been selected and depending on their spring seasons will be given the opportunity to represent Greece in summer tournaments. The group will be divided into two teams, a senior national team and junior national team.
The senior team will be having a training camp in Tennessee in mid-June before going to Italy from mid-June to early-July where they will be competing in the European Championships. The junior team will have a camp in Florida in late July which will then be followed by the ISF World Junior Championships also held in Florida in late July. The goal of the project is to put together a team that will be able to qualify for the 2018 World Championship and the 2020 Olympics.
Mary commented, “I’m very thankful to have the opportunity to play the sport I love at a new and more competitive level. I look forward to learning more about the game and pushing myself to be the best as I take this exciting step forward.”
Coach Brad Koch stated, “Our coaching staff couldn’t be more excited for Mary and this opportunity for her. She is hard working and dedicated to softball. The Greek coaching staff has a player here that should get a lot of consideration!”
